- UNHCR: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established by the UN General Assembly on 14 December 1950 to protect and assist victims of persecution, violence and intolerance. Since then, it has helped more than 50 million people, twice won the Nobel Peace Prize (1954 and 1981). Today, it is one of the world’s leading humanitarian agencies. - CONARE: The National Committee for Refugees (CONARE) is the collegiate body, linked to the Ministry of Justice, which brings together representative segments of government, civil society and United Nations. Its purpose is: to analyze the application on recognition of refugee status; to decide on the cessation “ex officio” or at the request of the competent authorities of refugee status; to declare the loss of refugee status; to guide and coordinate the actions necessary for effective protection, assistance, local integration and legal support for refugees, with the participation of the ministries and institutions that constitute the Conare; and to approve normative instructions that enable the execution of Law No. 9.474/97.
